These are common questions about asphalt paving, resurfacing and
sealcoating around Sellersburg. They cover driveways, parking lots,
private roads and the written quote. If yours is not here, call or text
and we will answer it.
An asphalt paving contractor prepares the base, then lays hot-mix asphalt and compacts it while it is hot. SIA Paving does that for driveways, parking lots and private roads around Sellersburg. We also mill and resurface worn asphalt, and we sealcoat driveways and lots. Tar and chip is a different surface that we do not install.
What area does SIA Paving serve?
We work about 45 miles around Sellersburg, across Clark, Floyd, Scott, Washington, Harrison, Jefferson and Jackson Counties. Jeffersonville, Clarksville, New Albany and Charlestown sit close by, and Madison and Seymour sit near the far edge. The towns and counties we serve are listed on one page. If you are not sure your job is inside that range, call or text and ask.
How does pricing work?
We price each job after we look at it. The size of the area, the condition of the base and how much old asphalt comes off drive the number. Thickness and access for the equipment matter too. Call or text (812) 913-8411, and the quote comes to you in writing.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. SIA Paving is licensed and insured. Ask that question of any paving contractor before heavy equipment comes onto your property.
Do you pave parking lots for churches and businesses?
Yes. We pave new parking lots and repave old ones for churches and businesses. On a repave, the old surface is milled first where the grade or the edges need it. Striping is part of the job on a lot we pave.
Should I resurface my asphalt or replace it?
A worn surface over a sound base can often take an asphalt overlay. Alligator cracking, a web of small connected cracks, very often points to weak support under the asphalt. Cracked spots left under an overlay can show back up through the new surface. We tell you whether an overlay fits or the surface needs replacing after we see it.
When should new asphalt get its first sealcoat?
New asphalt needs time to cure before its first sealcoat. A sealer maker's guide says at least a month or two, and a paving association says several months. After that, sealcoating on a regular schedule helps keep water and sun off the surface. We tell you when your new surface is ready for it.
Do I need a permit to pave in Sellersburg?
A new driveway or curb cut outside a platted subdivision needs an improvement location permit from the town. A driveway onto a county or state road also needs that road owner's permit. Under the town's stormwater ordinance, most projects disturbing 10,000 square feet of ground or more need a stormwater plan. The town's building department can tell you what applies to your property.
When is paving season in Southern Indiana?
Most hot-mix paving here runs from spring into fall, because the asphalt has to be compacted while it is hot. The state road specifications require warmer weather for thinner layers and bar paving on frozen ground. NOAA's normals put the typical last spring freeze between late March by the river and mid-April inland. The first fall freeze comes between late October inland and early November by the river.
